Better networking at Fulham FC

Telecomms and internet company, Pipex has signed a deal to provide a complete wireless network around Fulham FC's ground at Craven Cottage.

Fifteen wireless access points are installed throughout the stadium to enable a ticketless entry system to be introduced for season ticket holders, and give wireless Internet access to photographers and press on match days.

Wireless connectivity enables the club to offer fans a new ticketing system that provides an RF (radio-frequency) electronic card for all season tickets, eliminating the need for paper tickets.

It also means that stewards around the ground can use PDAs to gain supporters' seat information to control the crowds and assist fans before a game.

Matthew McGrory, head of IT at Fulham, commented: “Having new and innovative technology is enabling us to offer a better service to the fans.

“The ticketless system is simple for the club and fans, and will keep supporters moving through the turnstiles on match days."

For her part, Maria Cappella, managing director, Pipex Business Services, said: "Supporting Fulham with wireless access is important for us, as the team sponsor, and enables the club to provide up to the minute technology for all visitors to the ground.”
